Cosmetic Surgeon says Maybe to Teen Patients
Cosmetic Surgery in teens has always been a tough issue, with those looking to undergo surgery for the wrong reasons. Many opt for risky procedures just so they can look like the rich and famous.
A plastic surgeon in Los Angeles has however pointed out that plastic surgery in teens can be beneficial, and feels it is important that teens do not build up a negative perception of all plastic surgery procedures.
In an article on press.namct.com, Dr. Wang explains “No doubt, some cosmetic procedures aren’t right for the vast majority of teens. For instance, unless it’s an exceptional case, I don’t perform breast augmentation on anyone under 18. But other procedures can offer huge quality of life improvements to my teen patients.”
The articles states that breast augmentation is not the most common form of cosmetic surgery in teens, with rhinoplasty being the most popular cosmetic procedure. This form of surgery is also controversial, with some surgeons believing the procedure should not be performed on patients below the age of 20.
Other popular procedures include male breast reduction and ear surgery – to pin back ears that stick out too much. It is Dr. Wang’s belief that these types of cosmetic surgery are important factors in improving a teen’s self esteem. He also mentions how each case will be considered separately, and that maturity of the patient is a deciding factor.

That’s terrible - Cosmetic Surgery should only be given as a last resort and certainly not to teenagers.
Any surgeon that operates on young people is ethically wrong.
