So.. You’re Bald.
The average human head contains over 100,000 hair follicles, so why do so many people have serious trouble retaining the majority of them?
For a lot of people, its a natural part of the aging process.. but for many others it can be a far more serious condition. Some men in particular start losing hair on their scalp as early as their late teens, and often become very insecure about their appearance at a very young age.
So what can be done about male pattern hair loss?
Quite a lot of things!
Luckily, great websites like The Westminster Practice have such helpful information and resources that it isnt too hard to get quick help these days with a little assistance from the world wide web. The Westminster Practice in particular don’t just offer help and advice, they also carry a great range of hair loss products, from hair stimulants, to scalp lotions and shampoos.
So if you need help with hair loss, get moving!
Outdoor Play Facilities Urgently Needed
Unless we provide more outdoor play facilties and opportunities for our children and young people we are headed for an explosion in physical and mental health issues. This was part of the message that came from an international conference held in Bristol in 2006.
But exactly what is being done to address the problem? Childhood obesity has, at last, been recognised by central government as a major issue but are they acknowledging the warning from Professor Dick Jackson that poorly designed neighbourhoods, highway planning and urban design are root causes of our current situation?
Our towns, cities and roads are massively overcrowded. Local authorities are currently focussed upon providing more housing whilst somehow keeping the traffic flowing on the congested roads. Investment in urban parks, open spaces and outdoor play equipment has fallen significantly since the 1970’s when it was around 44% of local authority spending. Today it is more likely to be around 25 to 30%.
It has become necessary for people to recognise how the quality of their lives and importantly, the lives of children and young people, are affected by town planning, urban development and the allocation of local authority funds. People need to lobby their local authorities and convince their councillors that it is urgently necessary for them to place the needs of young people at the top of their priority list when considering any aspects of urban development. Open urban space with some good quality outdoor play equipment is relatively cheap to setup and maintain but the payoff will be immense.
Ban on Cosmetic Surgery in Public Hospitals
Australia announced a ban on cosmetic surgery in all national public hosptitals, a very bold move, could this catch on to North America and Europe?
Personally speaking I think it’s a great move, why should my taxes pay for some woman’s breast augmentation? Or similarly why should I give away 22% of my hard earned cash just so someone who’s never seen the inside of a gym can go for some liposuction? If you want that stuff done then you can pay for it! I more than happy for my taxes to go towards healthcare for people who are dying or are in need of medical attention. But to suggest that I pay for unnecassary surgery, to me atleast, is absurd.
Being in the UK I am unsure of how it works exactly in the US, perhaps someone could comment below and let me know, but I know they have such a range of dedicated professionals in the cosmetic surgery industry that I would find it unlikely for it to be paid for by the government. But if it is ruled out all together what sort of reprocussions will that have if any? Its hard to say.
In the UK I don’t think it would make a huge difference, which is even more reason to support it as a motion. Though I should stress that I have no problem at all with having cosmetic reconstructive surgery on the National Health Service as, if I was in an accident I would most certainly want that option for myself.
The question that still weighs heavily on my mind is how did cosmetic surgery get onto the NHS in the first place? What were they thinking when they suggested that? Its alike to suggesting that you insurance company should pay for a new paint job on your car whenever you feel like it.
The insurance is there for if you have an accident, and the car needs to be fixed, NOT just to make it look prettier. I wonder how insurers would react should anyone imply that they should pay for resprays as and when their customers requested them? Laughter, comes to mind!
